Hi, I’m Justine – the founder of Cap Society, and lover
of all hats (visors and fedoras excepted).
Cap Society is an Australian cap brand designed for women who live for the beach, the outdoors, and that effortlessly cool coastal lifestyle Australia does best. The idea was dreamed up on days that felt like cracking a coconut on the sand with my mates in Bali, coming out of the water after a surf, long morning walks and coffees with girlfriends along the beach paths on the Gold Coast, and sunny winter mornings watching the surfers and the whales in Cabarita.
All days beachy, outdoorsy, active, and surfy — but still cute.
Every time I wandered through beachside surf shops or independent boutiques, I’d find cotton dad caps I absolutely loved. But when I tried them on? The fit was terrible. Too high. Too awkward. Not designed for women. And then I’d flip the tag over — and the price was extortionate.
These weren’t branded well, they weren’t thoughtfully designed, and they definitely weren’t worth the price.
So I decided to create something better: a women’s dad cap Australia could be proud of. A cap with the perfect mid-profile fit, designed specifically for women’s faces. Something flattering. Something easy. Something you could wear to school drop-off, brunch, the pub, the beach, or a morning walk — without feeling like you borrowed it from someone else’s wardrobe.
The original Cap Society cap was designed and tested for our run club, The Rivers Run Club, in Murwillumbah in Northern NSW. Since 2024, the women there have worn them not just on their runs, but in everyday life — school events, work, coffee catch-ups, weekends away. Seeing our adjustable women’s caps become part of their daily uniform reinforced that this wasn’t just another dad cap Australia didn’t need — it was the one that had been missing.
